1 The strongest man in the world is independent
- 人生哲理类(自立)
It it better to be self-reliant(自力更生) or, instead, to rely on those around us? In my opinion, while self-reliance is an essential quality(基本素质) that everyone should strive to develop(努力发展), it is also crucial(重要) that we know how to enlist(获取) and accept the support of others.
In addition to fostering greater efficiency(培养更高的效率) in our daily lives, self-dependence can also help to make life more meaningful. As an illustration(例如), self-reliant individuals(的人) might teach themselves how to play the guitar, bake an apple pie, or grow a flower garden. Nevertheless(然而), it would be difficult for us to survive without the assistance of others. For instance, a doctor might have to call a plumber(水管工) to fix a leaking faucet(水龙头); an engineer may need to ask an accountant(会计) to fill out his tax returns(纳税申报单); and a layer with a sore tooth(牙疼) will have no choice but to consult a dentist(咨询一位牙医).
In the final analysis(归根结底), neither complete self-dependence nor excessive reliance on others is advisable(明智) or even feasible(可取). We need learn to stand on our own feet(学会自立), but also know how to properly rely on others(恰当地依靠别人).
2 If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.
- 人生哲理类(行动)
Success is something that many people strive for, but that not everyone among us attains. When we consider the various factors that play a role in determining(决定……的因素) whether a person is successful in life(一个人的一生是否成功), ambition and action are two of the first to come to mind(最先想到的两个因素). Just as American writer Napoleon Hill put it, “If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.”
To illustrate, a young person who aspires to be a great chef might decide to buy some cookbooks, spend weekends practicing and refining(改进) his culinary techniques(烹饪技巧), or take on a part-time job at a local restaurant. On the contrary, if he simply ends up spending all spare time surfing the Internet or playing video games, neighter of which would give him the skills or experience needed to succeed(这些都不能为他带来成功所需的技能或经验), he will certainly not make it.
In conclusion, doing great things and doing small things are both essential in determining(重要因素) whether we flourish(成长) or fall behind(落后). The former(前者) gives us the drive and direction to move forward(给我们前进的动力和方向), while the latter(后者) enables us to implement our vision and “make things happen”. In combination, they represent the winning formula(秘诀) that will put us firmly on the road to success(走上成功之路).
